Potato Table at the Op Shop

Uber Tuber has a potato table at the Op Shop. There are potato cards and buttons for sale, and underground floating potatoes.

The Op Shop is a temporary art space and community art center existing inside a former Hollywood Video store. It has artwork, a thrift store, and also hosts music, and various performances and workshops. It is located in Chicago's south side neighborhood of Hyde Park, 1530 E. 53rd St.

A friend recently found an interesting French fry, naturally shaped like a number 1. He gave it to me, figuring I would come up with something potato related. So, by adding in a waffle fry for a number symbol, and getting a nice Russet to pose, this new image was created.

It is now available as a postcard on etsy.

President Obama gets a heart-shaped potato

When President Obama was asked why he came on the David Letterman show, he replied that he wanted to see the heart-shaped potato. It may have been a spontaneous joke, and just as casual as the appearance of the heart-shaped potato on that very evening. But perhaps all this wasn't just a random occurrence. What if the woman with the heart-shaped potato was invited back just to be in the audience with that special tuber? A Presidential interview on a talk show always needs a humorous moment to lighten the mood, and a quirky thing like an unusual spud is just the type of humor the Letterman show can get behind. The heart-shaped potato was probably viewed as funny, cute, non-offensive, and appealing to all different types of people of all ages. I can just see the President's team discussing the heart-shaped potato in some secure, private office, trying to determine the ways such a spud might affect the President's image. There are people who look over everything the president does, so I'm sure this heart-shaped potato did not appear just by chance. The whole thing must have been carefully planned.
The heart-shaped potato might now become a symbol of Obama's presidency. After all, he was elected in 2008, which was declared by the United Nations as the Year of the Potato. It all is coming together. It is a new age, and Obama and potatoes will unite the world.

Some potato photos are now showing at Leadway Bar. This offbeat Lincoln Square spot has a Gallery section, plus art supplies to encourage creativity. It's located not far from Uber Tuber Headquarters, at 5233 N Damen Ave.

Uber Tuber will once again be at the Depart-Ment holiday craft market.

Come see a whole array of art and crafty creations from over 100 unique sellers. It's happening the same weekend as Renegade, but hopefully you'll have time to hit them both.
I'll be there on Sunday from 2-5pm

Potatoes at Pitchfork

Uber Tuber will once again be at the Pitchfork Musical Festival in Union Park, Chicago, July 18, 19, 20. If you are attending the fest, be sure to take a break over at the Depart-Ment tent, where you'll find all kinds of unique things from nearly 100 different crafty sellers. It will be next to the CHIRP record fair. I'll be volunteering Saturday from 2:15- 4:45, and 7:30- 10:15, and also Sunday 4:45- 7:30 pm. So stop by and say hi.

Potato Love Across the Earth

73 Uber Tuber postcards have arrived from Australia. They all came in a special potato package, sent by Brendan, coordinator for "The Humble Spud." People wrote the cards directly from the show. It was terrific to receive so many original potato messages, and drawings. And it's nice to know there are potato fans way down on the other side of the earth.
So, the postcard project was a starchy success.

"The Humble Spud" potato art exhibition was well received, and even covered by several newspapers. It was definitely a day for tubers in Sydney!
People wrote messages to Uber Tuber on Uber Tuber postcards. They were made to be mailed back to me, (or to my parent's address actually), but before that they were archived, and you can see them here:

Uber Tuber in Australia: "The Humble Spud"

Uber Tuber is participating in "The Humble Spud," an all potato art exhibition taking place in Sydney Australia this weekend.
My part will be a mailing project with heart-shaped potato postcards. People will be invited to take the cards, write down their thoughts about potatoes, and then mail them back here. If it works, it will unite potato fans from across the globe.
